Novel Landscapes

Group exhibition curated by
Anna Masters

Bringing together the works of Giuseppe D'Innella, Jayson Lilley and Anna Masters, Novel Landscapes invites you on a journey to uncover new ways to perceive, navigate and engage with our local landscapes.

Drawing on their own unique histories and influences, the three artists respond to the landscape through abstraction, innovative printmaking techniques and large-scale organic installations. The resulting exhibition celebrates our built, natural and cultivated landscapes in ways that highlight not only the variety of landscapes that we interact with, but also demonstrates how the same landscapes are interpreted through vastly different lenses.

In this exhibition, Anna presents a new installation and participatory art work, alongside her distinctive mixed media and sculptural works. With a particular focus on our wild spaces, she interrogates how the natural environment might become a place of nurture and safety.

Curation

Anna has taken a unique and innovative curatorial approach to this exhibition. Rather than providing a single curatorial statement for the exhibition, she has collated three – one from the perspective of each of the exhibiting artists. Introduced to their 'guide' through a playful description of their modes of exploring places, audiences are lead through the exhibition with the distinct perspectives, focusses and influences of their guide. Visitors are invited to experience the ‘landscape’ of the exhibition from different perspectives, imbuing the artworks and their surroundings in shifting narratives. The dialogues created between audience and works shows the landscape to be less concrete and fixed than they may have at first seemed. Rather, it seems relational and personal.
